Meeting someone new should be exciting, not nerve-wracking. Here's how to keep it that way.

If you are in immediate danger

Contact your local emergency services right away — in the US and Canada that's 911. Your safety comes before anything happening in the app. Report the person to us afterwards so we can act on it.

01Before you meet

Most of the work happens before you ever leave the house.

🎥Video call firstUse the in-app video call before meeting in person. It costs you two minutes and confirms the person matches their photos — without giving out your phone number.
📸Look for the blue checkVerified members have matched a live selfie to their photos. It's a useful signal — not a guarantee of anything else about them.
📍Pick the place yourselfChoose somewhere public and busy that you already know. A coffee shop beats somewhere you've never been.
👯Tell someone the planShare where you're going, who with, and when you expect to be home. Treat lets you send your date plan to a friend in one tap.
🚗Arrange your own transportGet yourself there and back. Don't be picked up from home, and don't share your address on a first date.
💬Keep chat in the appBe wary of anyone pushing hard to move to WhatsApp or Telegram straight away. In-app messages are the only ones we can review if something goes wrong.

02During the date

Trust your gut. You never owe anyone your time.

🥤Mind your drinkOrder it yourself, watch it being made, and don't leave it unattended. If it tastes odd, stop drinking it.
📱Keep your phone chargedCharged, on you, and not handed to anyone else.
🚪You can leave at any momentIf you feel uncomfortable for any reason — or no reason — leave. You do not need permission, an excuse, or a polite exit. Telling a member of staff you feel unsafe is always an option.
🏠Stay in public on a first dateKeep it to public places. Don't go back to theirs and don't invite them to yours until you genuinely know them.

03Spotting a scam

Romance fraud is the most common harm on every dating platform. It follows a predictable script.

Never send money to someone you met on Treat. Not a loan, not a gift card, not crypto, not "just to help out until Friday." Treat will never ask you to send money to another member. If someone asks, report them — you'll be protecting other people too.

04Reporting someone

Reporting takes a few seconds and it genuinely matters — reports are how we find people who are harming others.

1Open their profileTap the card to open the full profile, then choose Report or block.
2Pick what happenedFake profile, asked for money, harassment, threats, underage, or something that happened on a date.
3They disappear from your view immediatelyBlocking is instant. They won't be shown to you again and can't message you.
4We review itEvery report is logged and reviewed. Threats, reports involving anyone under 18, and anything that happened on a real date are treated as urgent.

05What we do, and what we don't

We'd rather be straight with you than reassuring.

✅What we doPhoto verification, automated screening of uploaded images, a review process for every report, blocking of banned accounts returning under a new name, and a who-pays preference that stays hidden until an account is verified.
❌What we don't doWe do not run criminal background checks. We do not screen members against sex offender registries. We cannot confirm anyone's job, wealth, relationship status, or intentions.
Verification helps confirm that a member is a real person whose face matches their photos. It is not a background check, and it does not guarantee any member's identity, character, intentions, or safety. You are responsible for your own interactions with other members, online and in person. Please take the precautions on this page seriously — they exist because they work.
